Panama is a very small country but it is characterized by a very diverse biodiversity. You can find such exotic species throughout the country and it is amazing how from one region to another you can find different types of animals and trees. One of the most picturesque and beautiful tree species are the yellow Guayacanes, which are dressed in a striking yellow color when their flowers come out to adorn the months of March and April. A true spectacle of nature to see the contrast of the yellow flowers with the summer sky. In addition to the Guayacan we have countless species that make up our vast national flora, among which we have the tree called Panama, Quira, Cedar, Oak, Jabillo, Corotu, cocobolo and many more species among which some of them are in danger of extinction due to indiscriminate logging and bad practice of not reforesting.

The ecosystems of our beloved Panama are becoming more and more affected due to bad ecological conservation practices, few institutions that care for the environment, exponential growth of our urban areas and most of our commercial activities that directly threaten our environment.

It is undeniable that progress is unstoppable and cannot be stopped, but we have to keep in mind that if we develop urban projects without taking into account the integration of nature in them, we will have in the not too distant future a lot of development and not nature. For this reason it is of utmost importance that we start developing ECO-FRIENDLY projects where we start integrating more nature in urban areas in order to bet on a future with enough natural resources. Today in 2024 the drinking water crisis in Panama is a reality, and to think about this 5 years ago was unimaginable. A decade ago who would have thought that here in Panama we would have a drinking water crisis. Today in many communities it is not safe to drink tap water and if you want to avoid getting sick you have to buy water and all this due to poor planning and some other commercial and agricultural practices that contaminate our watersheds. Due to these reasons mentioned above there are also large numbers of animals that are becoming more depressed and disturbed every day, as their ecosystems are destroyed and they are forced to inhabit places or urban areas where their lives are increasingly affected by man.

We must try to relocate every animal we find outside their ecosystem since they can be run over on the roads as it is common to find dead animals on the roads. Many times we find dogs, cats, snakes, opossums and many other animals run over in the streets as they have less and less natural spaces to live in. It is evident that the wildlife of our country is being disturbed with each passing day due to development and our poor preservation practices.

Sloth Re-location

A little help from this man could have prevented this specimen from ending up run over in the street. Sloths are not that agile on foot and even less so in the streets. Once this sloth was relocated, you could see how easily it could move between tree branches. Small actions like these help directly to reduce the environmental impact caused by development in areas where species like these live.
